About
Joy Kecken is a showrunner, director, writer-producer, playwright, and librettist. She is a Television Academy Honors Honoree and NAACP Image Award–nominated writer-producer.
Her recent credits include Executive Producer on Apple TV+’s Swagger and Co-Executive Producer on National Geographic’s Genius: MLK/X. She previously wrote and directed for HBO’s The Wire and is currently developing a Warner Bros. series with NK Carroll (All-American).
Additional producing credits include FX’s Kindred, Freeform’s Motherland: Fort Salem, and consulting producer on the Oscar-shortlisted documentary The Biggest Little Farm.
As a director and librettist, Joy bridged her musical and cinematic roots on Boston Lyric Opera’s award-winning digital opera series Desert In, filmed on location in Palm Springs.
Her writing credits also include Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger, Tales, and Homicide: Life on the Street. Her short films and feature documentary have screened at over 30 festivals, and she has developed series projects with Warner Bros., Amazon, ABC Signature, FX, Freeform, and UCP.
She is based in Los Angeles.
